currently offers clay classes for Adults. Classes are scheduled for throwing on the wheel, hand-building, decorative glazing, raku, and special workshops. Classes take students through the entire sequence of steps required to go from wet clay to a glazed and fired finished product. All classes are taught by accomplished clay artists. Our belief is that Art is an Artisan - if you learn the fundamentals very well, you will be able to make anything with practice. Adult classes include 12 hrs of instruction and 12 hrs of open studio time plus 3,000 cubic inches of firing for your class projects. Group Classes, Birthday Parties, and Individual Classes are welcome - call for details!

Alpha Kids & Clay:

Alpha Kids & Clay Alpha Fired Arts after school class will introduce your child to the wonderful world of clay. Alpha’s talented art instructors will guide the children through a variety of hand building projects including slab, pinch, and coil techniques.  Students will also enjoy an introduction to the potters’ wheel. Everyone will create an array of fun, fantastic clay art works. Class size is limited so sign up early!  Special classes available for Home School’ers please inquire.

Adult Pottery Classes: Beginning Wheel Throwing   Instructor: David Bradley Have you always wanted to try your hand at pottery? Wheel-thrown pots are always in style and a pleasure to create. This introductory class starts you off on the wheel with good habits and positive feedback from your very first session. Techniques covered are wedging, centering, pulling, trimming and use of all the various tools. Lots of demonstrations provided to assist you and special attention for every person. January 7, 2010, ending February 11, 2010 February 18, 2010, ending March 25, 2010   Intermediate Wheel Throwing Instructor: David Bradley Now have you mastered the cylinder and bowl shapes?  Do you need more guided practice and learn new skills then please join us to explore your creativity. Classes will be structured towards basic utilitarian forms cups, pictures, bowls, handles, and exploring at least one form per class session. Prerequisites, before qualifying for the Intermediate Pottery Wheel Throwing Class you must have at least two sessions in the Learning Exchange Beginning Wheel Throwing Class or be able to make  1- 11” cylinder and 4- 6” bowls. Monday’s: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Four Monday nights are a session for $99 + $20 material fee which includes one bag of Alpha Stone and use of a few class base glazes.  Each student is allowed one makeup session per 4 weeks or one excused absence per session to be arranged with the instructor. Clay Sculpture Open Studio: Explore Clay Sculpture & Hand Building Wednesday: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM New Students start every Wednesday Night - Pre-Registration required Instructor: Tony Natsoulas Price: $99 + Faclity Fee $20 for 4 class sessions This is a workshop, where people come to our studio and work individually on any project they would like. There are no assignments, but Tony will be there to help in any way he can.

About the instructor: Tony Natsoulas has been a ceramic sculptor for more than 25 years. He has studied with world-renowned artists such as Robert Arneson, Wayne Thiebaud, Manual Neri and, Roy de Forest. Tony has exhibited in galleries around the globe, in Russia, Italy, France, Japan and all across the United States. He has also exhibited in numerous museums as well as in both group and solo shows. In 2001, he held a one-person exhibition at the Oakland Museum of Art, and in 2002, he had a critically acclaimed solo show at the Crocker Art Museum. Spring 2006 he was invited to be a visiting artist at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. Also, he has successfully completed several large public and private commissions in clay, fiberglass and bronze that have been installed in several California locations. Alpha Fired Arts Raku on Saturdays With David Bradley We will be holding Raku Firings: Dates to be Announced:  Please call and join our phone list to be notified with firing dates.          DETAILS: Start time is 10:00 AM  Cost is $45 for 1 Cu. Ft. of kiln space. Bring up to 4 pieces. Additional space available at $20/Ft or $6 a pot. Protective clothing required, long sleeve shirt, & no opened toed shoes  Registration & prepayment required, space is limited to 6-8 Raku-ers. Price includes:  Firing of up to 4 pieces.  Instruction on kiln use and what to look for when firing. Use of safety gloves, tongs, tools & equipment. Glaze you ware with choice of 6 different Laguna Raku glazes. Some Mayco raku glazes are available for purchase, as well as other low-fire glazes you can try out. Use of brushes, sponges, reduction barrels, and materials. Just bring your bisque! Raku starts at 9 - 10 AM. If you have detailed work to glaze, please call to arrange to come early to start your glazing. To avoid problems with cracking or poor results, do not use porcelain or grog less clays. Do not bring heavy iron/red clays. Recommended clays are Sculpture-Raku, Orion Stout, and Soldate-60.
